SA, Europe in high-level talks on how to improve trade
International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane. TRADE and investment between South Africa and Europe was discussed at the highest level with European Commission vice-president Baroness Catherine Ashton on Monday. "We looked at trade and investment figures, and discussed how to improve this under the current global meltdown," International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said after bilateral discussions were held in Belgium.
The agreement provides the legal basis for close relations in trade, development, and economic co-operation, and for political dialogue. Ms Nkoana-Mashabane and Lady Ashton used the meeting to finalise preparations for the annual SA-European Union (EU) Summit, which would take place in South Africa during the next month.
On Friday, Ms Nkoana-Mashabane said that engagements between South Africa and the EU would focus on job creation through investment, as outlined in the National Development Plan.
