Toilet protests are 'not political'
THE so-called poo protests are not politically motivated and Premier Helen Zille’s notion that they are is misinformed, says the Cape Town Informal Settlement Leaders. The group is a collective of residents from informal settlements in the city, set up in reaction to a “crisis of sanitation” in the city. At a press conference yesterday, it said if people in ANC-governed provinces were also unhappy about service delivery in their communities, they too should protest until their demands were met.
But the group’s interim task team came out strongly against Zille, saying the dossier was a “political stunt” to divert public attentions from the issue of service delivery. Former ANC councillor Andile Lili, one of the 11 men, accused Zille of trying to predetermine the outcome of their court cases.
