King joins DA
ABATHEMBU King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo yesterday officially became a card-carrying member of the Democratic Alliance. Eastern Cape DA leader Athol Trollip yesterday visited the Bumbane Great Place to meet the king and hand over the card. The meeting almost failed to take place as armed security guards tried to prevent anyone from entering the Great Place, and only withdrew after talks between the king and the head of the security company.
Speaking at the Great Place after handing Dalindyebo his membership card, Trollip said the ruling party was resting on its laurels. “The 80% majority of the ANC in this area is what constrains service delivery because the government of the day knows that if it doesn’t deliver or change people’s lives materially, there will be no consequences.
“Today is important for the AbaThembu that the king has had the courage of his convictions to break that mould. Addressing a media briefing yesterday, he said he did not want to talk about the incident involving security guards.
Calculama Security boss Ronnie Matshaya was a longtime friend and more like his brother, he added. It is understood the king was not allowed to leave the premises on Friday.
