King's move to DA may not swing votes
THE recent move by controversial AbaThembu king Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo to join the Democratic Alliance will not necessarily bring more votes to South Africa’s opposition party, analysts believe. Independent political analyst Somadoda Fikeni said while the expectation was that Dalindyebo’s move would bring voters from the Thembu nation, people should remember he was a “very controversial leader” and voters might not necessarily follow. He did believe the move would lend some credibility to the DA in the Eastern Cape, however, given that, along with former Eastern Cape premier Nosimo Balindlela, they now had a man who was close not only to the ANC but also to former President Nelson Mandela as they were part of the same clan.
