LG cancelled future promotions linked to its G2 phone following the disaster at the event, quickly dubbed World War G. London - The launch of LG’s latest smartphone has received publicity of the wrong kind after a promotional event went wrong. The Korean firm filled 100 helium balloons with free vouchers for its new G2 handset worth £550 (about R7 000) at an event at a park in Seoul.
But a crowd of participants armed themselves with knives on sticks and ball bearing guns to try to ground the balloons and collect their prizes. The firm will foot the medical bills for the 20 people injured, which included seven sent to hospital with spear wounds.
