'Fraud' teachers in dock
Charges of fraud against 22 teachers who were arrested in the Bohlabela and Ehlanzeni districts last week by the Hawks for allegedly defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS) of about R7m will resume in various magistrate’s courts tomorrow for formal bail applications. Ehlanzeni encompasses areas like Nelspruit and KaBokweni while Bohlabela includes Bushbuckridge and Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg). Hawks spokesperson Capt Paul Ramoloko said the accused were arrested at their work places after it was discovered that they had apparently submitted fraudulent tax returns to SARS last year.
