Cash boost for infrastructure
The national Treasury has injected millions of rands to upgrade security at courts, get new courts off the ground and run centres for victims of sexual violence. The Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan yesterday said more funds have been given to the Department of Justice to be able to run its programmes. While the portfolio committee on justice had requested an additional R5.8bn for the department over the next three years Gordhan said extra funds have been allocated to various programmes of the department.
The Finance Minister said the Justice Department has been given an extra R88m for court security, R75m for start-up and operational costs of the new courts and R90m for Thuthuzela care centres.
