New act to see unruly protesters face action
Unruly protestors in KZN who vandalise property and burn objects such as tyres or block roads with debris will from now on face the full might of the law. The warning comes just days after the signing into law of the Dangerous Weapons Act. The act, which prohibits the carrying in public of all dangerous weapons, including spears and knobkerries, bricks, glass bottles and other dangerous items, aims to quell violence during protests.
Officers yesterday said on a daily basis members of the SAPS are required to police a number of protest marches and picketing in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
