Protea protesters charged
Twenty-two protesters arrested in last week’s service delivery mayhem in the Protea south informal settlement in Soweto, are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court today. They have been charged with public violence, malicious damage to property and theft. This after scores of shops of foreign nationals were looted in the mayhem.
The situation got worse on Saturday when residents regrouped and barricaded streets with large rocks, which made it impossible for motorists to drive along the streets. Their protest was prompted by a lack of service delivery, which they said included lack of electricity, water and sanitation....
