Johannesburg - A man was killed and another was injured in mob violence in Mankweng at the weekend, Limpopo police said on Monday. Both were accused of attempted rape before being attacked on Sunday, said Constable Moses Molepo. He allegedly attempted to rape her, Molepo said. The woman used a whistle to call for help from her neighbours, who apparently attacked Mboweni with a variety of weapons. Molepo said Mboweni had two court cases pending against him - one for rape and another for housebreaking with intent to steal....

Public protector Thuli Madonsela yesterday met with people in Limpopo who voiced their concerns about government institutions. On Tuesday, Madonsela visited the 55-year-old Tshilidzini Hospital in Thohoyandou in Vhembe and found that nobody was protected against possible infections. Kgalalelo Masibi, spokesperson for the Public Protector, said in a statement surgical items such as gloves and masks were insufficient. Hospital officials told Madonsela contracts for the procurement of such items had expired more than six months ago. They put the blame on bureaucracy, saying it was delaying the renewal of the contracts. The hospital does not have delegated powers to purchase the items on its own and has to wait for the head office in Polokwane to do the work. Madonsela also found that Tshilidzini Hospital was in short supply of anaesthetic machines, suction machines, patient monitors, autoclave machines, diathermy machines and tourniquets.
